Zeraora Pokémon GO is finally making its long-awaited debut during Pokémon GO Fest 2026, and for many Trainers, this is one of the biggest Mythical Pokémon releases the game has seen in years. After endless speculation and requests from the community, the Thunderclap Pokémon is officially arriving as part of the in-person GO Fest events, beginning with Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo.

With Mega Mewtwo dominating headlines and GO Fest introducing massive citywide gameplay features this year, it would have been easy for Zeraora to get overshadowed. Instead, Niantic has made it one of the centrepieces of the entire event, complete with exclusive Special Research, unique rewards, and what could become one of the strongest Electric-type attackers in Pokémon GO.

If you are wondering how to get Zeraora Pokémon GO, whether Shiny Zeraora is coming, or how strong it could become in raids and PvP, here is everything we know so far.

How to Get Zeraora Pokémon GO

Zeraora will first become available during the in-person Pokémon GO Fest 2026 events.

Ticket-holding Trainers attending:

  • Tokyo
  • Chicago
  • Copenhagen

will receive exclusive Special Research leading to a Zeraora encounter.

Currently, Pokémon GO Fest Tokyo is the first confirmed opportunity to obtain Zeraora, making the event one of the most important Pokémon GO live events in recent memory.

Unlike standard Mythical Pokémon debuts, Zeraora appears to be heavily tied to the GO Fest experience itself. Trainers attending the park sessions will progress through Special Research while exploring themed zones throughout the event.

Niantic has confirmed that Trainers can only encounter Zeraora once, regardless of how many GO Fest events they attend. Additional Special Research stories completed after the first encounter will instead reward Zeraora Candy.

What Type Is Zeraora?

Zeraora is a pure Electric-type Mythical Pokémon originally introduced in Generation 7.

That immediately puts it into competition with some of the strongest Electric attackers currently in Pokémon GO, including:

  • Zekrom
  • Xurkitree
  • Raikou
  • Mega Manectric
  • Mega Ampharos

Zeraora is known for its incredible speed and aggressive attacking stats in the mainline Pokémon games, so expectations are extremely high for its Pokémon GO performance.

Can Zeraora Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

At the moment, Shiny Zeraora has not been confirmed for Pokémon GO.

Historically, Mythical Pokémon debuts in Pokémon GO almost always launch without their shiny forms initially available. That means standard Zeraora is expected during GO Fest 2026, while Shiny Zeraora may arrive during a future global event, raid day, or Masterwork Research storyline.

That said, Pokémon GO Fest 2026 is introducing several major shiny releases elsewhere, including:

  • Shiny Wash Rotom
  • Shiny Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros
  • Team Mystic Hat Pikachu

Our Pokemon GO Fest Tokyo article covers everything you need to encounter Zeraora before anyone else in the world.

Zeraora Pokémon GO Stats and Potential

Although official Zeraora Pokémon GO stats have not yet been fully revealed, Zeraora has the potential to become one of the strongest non-Mega Electric attackers in the game.

In the main series games, Zeraora has:

  • Extremely high Speed
  • Strong Attack
  • Excellent offensive movepool

If translated well into Pokémon GO, it could rival top-tier raid attackers immediately.

Possible fast moves could include:

  • Thunder Shock
  • Volt Switch

Possible charged moves may include:

  • Wild Charge
  • Thunderbolt
  • Plasma Fists

Will Zeraora Pokémon GO Learn Plasma Fists?

One of the biggest questions surrounding Zeraora Pokémon GO is whether it will receive its signature move, Plasma Fists.

In the mainline games, Plasma Fists is an incredibly powerful Electric-type move exclusive to Zeraora. If implemented correctly in Pokémon GO, it could instantly elevate Zeraora into elite-tier raid attacker territory.

Niantic has not confirmed Plasma Fists yet, but many Trainers expect it either:

  • at launch
  • through an Elite TM
  • or during a future raid/event upgrade

Is Zeraora Good in Pokémon GO PvP?

Potentially, yes.

Electric-types already perform well in several PvP formats due to their ability to pressure common Water and Flying Pokémon. Zeraora’s high offensive stats and likely fast energy generation could make it extremely dangerous in:

  • Ultra League
  • Master League Premier
  • Special Cups

Its main challenge will likely be bulk. Zeraora has traditionally been more of a glass cannon than a tanky Pokémon.

Still, if it receives a strong moveset with good coverage, it could become one of the most exciting Mythical Pokémon PvP additions in years.

Zeraora Pokémon GO Fest 2026

Zeraora is not arriving quietly. Pokémon GO Fest 2026 is clearly built around major headline content, including:

  • Mega Mewtwo X and Y
  • Mewtwo raids
  • Citywide gameplay
  • Pokémon GO Expert medals
  • New Trainer Challenges
  • Shiny Wash Rotom

Yet even among all of that, Zeraora feels special.

The Mythical Pokémon is tied directly into the event story experience, with Professor Willow and Blanche guiding Trainers through Special Research during the Tokyo park gameplay.

For many long-time Pokémon fans, Zeraora has been one of the most requested missing Mythical Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Seeing it finally arrive during GO Fest instantly raises the importance of this year’s event.

Will Zeraora Pokémon GO Be Available Globally Later?

Probably, but likely not immediately.

Historically, Pokémon GO has handled Mythical Pokémon releases in stages:

  1. In-person GO Fest debut
  2. Global GO Fest release or paid research
  3. Wider free release months later

That means Trainers unable to attend Pokémon GO Fest 2026 should still eventually receive access to Zeraora, though it may take some time.

Niantic has not officially confirmed a global release window yet.

Zeraora Pokémon GO Could Become One of Pokémon GO’s Most Important Mythical Pokémon

Between its fan popularity, strong battle potential, and stylish design, Zeraora already feels like one of the standout Pokémon additions of 2026.

The combination of Pokémon GO Fest exclusivity, Special Research storytelling, Mega Mewtwo connections, and possible future signature move potential gives Zeraora far more hype than most Mythical releases receive. For Electric-type collectors especially, this could become an essential Pokémon to build and power up immediately.

With Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo now approaching fast, Zeraora is shaping up to be one of the biggest reasons Trainers from around the world are preparing to explore Tokyo this May.
