Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo is shaping up to be one of the biggest live Pokémon GO events ever held in Japan, bringing exclusive Pokémon, citywide gameplay, special research, Shiny debuts, Mega Mewtwo encounters, and the long-awaited debut of Zeraora to Tokyo Waterfront City. Trainers travelling to Japan for Pokémon GO Fest 2026 will have access to unique bonuses, themed habitats, exclusive raids, and a brand-new City Explorer Pass system designed to turn the entire city into a massive Pokémon GO adventure.
Taking place across multiple days from May 29 to June 1, Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo combines a dedicated park experience with an expanded citywide event throughout Tokyo. Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo takes place at Tokyo Waterfront City in Japan across the following dates:

Ticket prices start at ¥4,000 for a one-day experience.
There are two different park session options available:
Morning Park Experience
- 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM JST
Afternoon Park Experience

Zeraora Makes Its Pokémon GO Debut at GO Fest Tokyo
One of the biggest highlights of Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo is the debut of Zeraora in Pokémon GO.
Ticket holders attending the in-person Tokyo event will receive Special Research leading to an encounter with the Mythical Thunderclap Pokémon. This is currently the first confirmed way to obtain Zeraora in Pokémon GO.
Importantly, Trainers can only receive one Zeraora encounter regardless of how many GO Fest events they attend. Additional Special Research stories after the first completion will instead award Zeraora Candy.
This immediately makes Pokémon GO Fest Tokyo one of the most important live events Pokémon GO has hosted in years and is guaranteed to end the May 2026 season with a bang, especially for collectors and Mythical Pokémon fans.
Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y Bonuses
Mega Mewtwo is another massive focus during Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo.
Trainers who complete at least two Trainer Challenges during the event will unlock Bonus Timed Research allowing them to choose between:
- Mega Mewtwo X
- Mega Mewtwo Y
The chosen Mega Evolution will arrive with Mega Level 1 already unlocked, giving Trainers a significant head start with one of the strongest Pokémon in Pokémon GO history.
Mewtwo Returns to Raids During GO Fest Tokyo
Mewtwo will return to five-star raids throughout Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo.
Mewtwo raids will appear across the city during the event, giving Trainers another opportunity to catch one of the game’s most iconic Legendary Pokémon. Shiny Mewtwo will also be available.
Given the strength of Mewtwo in raids, PvP, and Mega Evolution potential, these raids are expected to be among the busiest encounters during the entire event.
Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros Appears in Tokyo
Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo will feature exclusive access to Paldean Tauros Aqua Breed form.
This regional variant normally appears in the Western Hemisphere, making Tokyo one of the rare opportunities for Japanese Trainers to obtain it locally.
Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros will appear in:
- Three-star raids
- Tokyo Waterfront City
- Citywide gameplay
Shiny eligibility is exclusive to GO Fest ticket holders.
Shiny Wash Rotom Debuts
Another major draw for shiny hunters is the debut of Shiny Rotom Wash Form.
Wash Rotom originally debuted in Pokémon GO in 2020, but Pokémon GO Fest 2026 marks the first time Trainers can encounter its shiny version.
Given Rotom’s rarity historically, this is likely to become one of the most sought-after shiny Pokémon from the event.
Event Exclusive Pikachu Wearing Team Mystic Hat
Tokyo’s themed costumed Pokémon will be Pikachu wearing a Team Mystic hat.
This costume is exclusive to Pokémon GO Fest Tokyo, while Chicago and Copenhagen receive different team-themed variants.
As expected, Shiny versions may also appear for lucky Trainers.
Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Tokyo Featured Wild Pokémon
Several themed Pokémon will appear throughout Tokyo Waterfront City and citywide gameplay areas during event hours.
Featured encounters include:
- Squirtle wearing a Pikachu visor
- Caterpie wearing a Poké Ball hat
- Staryu
- Lapras
- Vaporeon
- All forms of Unown
- Larvitar
- Anorith
- Beldum
- Mudbray
- Comfey
- Dhelmise
- Sinistea
Rare encounters may include:
- Galarian Mr. Mime
- Sandile
Many of these Pokémon can appear shiny. The Pokemon GO Global covers more features for the entire festival.
Pokémon GO Expert Medal and City District Challenges
A brand-new Pokémon GO Expert medal will debut during GO Fest 2026.
To unlock it, Trainers must complete Timed Research tied to four separate City Districts across Tokyo.
Players must explore at least two districts and complete their associated challenges. Completing multiple Trainer Challenges also unlocks additional Mega Mewtwo Bonus Research.
The Timed Research remains active from:
- May 25, 2026
- Through June 1, 2026
This system is clearly designed to encourage Trainers to fully explore Tokyo during the event week rather than only remaining inside the park.
