Niantic has now shared additional details about the Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Super Mega Raid, confirming that players will not be able to simply join any nearby Gym during the event. Instead, Trainers attending GO Fest Tokyo will need to participate from designated Gyms that will be communicated ahead of time.
That is a huge change from how raids normally work in Pokémon GO, and honestly, it sounds like Niantic is expecting absolute chaos once Mega Mewtwo appears.
How the Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Super Mega Raid Works
The Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Super Mega Raid will take place during the final 30 minutes of each Tokyo Park Experience gameplay session.
Rather than allowing free movement between raids, Trainers will reportedly receive instructions in advance explaining which Gym areas they should head toward during the event.
According to the official update, ticket holders will receive additional information by email, including participation instructions and details on how to confirm their assigned area.
It is a very different setup compared to normal Raid Battles, and it immediately makes the Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Super Mega Raid feel more like a large-scale live event than a standard Pokémon GO activity.
Mega Mewtwo Is Expected to Be the Main Attraction
While Niantic has still not revealed every detail about the encounter itself, Mega Mewtwo is clearly being positioned as one of the headline attractions of Pokémon GO Fest 2026.
That alone explains why the company may be introducing stricter organisation for this event. Mewtwo has always been one of the most popular Pokémon in the entire game, and a Mega version appearing at an in-person GO Fest was always going to pull massive crowds.

- Whether players can participate in multiple Mega Mewtwo raids
- If Remote Raid Passes will work
- Whether shiny encounters will be available
- How difficult Mega Mewtwo will actually be
- If there will be bonuses tied specifically to park ticket holders
For now, players attending GO Fest Tokyo will simply need to wait for further instructions from Niantic.
This Could Change Future Pokémon GO Events
The Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Super Mega Raid system could end up becoming a test run for future Pokémon GO events.
Large in-person raid moments have always been difficult to manage due to crowding and connection issues, so assigning players to specific Gym areas could be Niantic’s way of making major events run more smoothly moving forward.
