Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global takes place on:
- Saturday, July 11, 2026
- Sunday, July 12, 2026
The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. local time on both days.
As expected, gameplay will rotate through themed hourly habitats, bringing different wild spawns, shiny opportunities, and encounter pools throughout the day. While Niantic has not fully revealed every habitat yet, this system traditionally becomes one of the biggest parts of GO Fest due to exclusive Pokémon appearing during specific rotation windows.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y Finally Arrive
The biggest confirmed feature of Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global is the long-awaited debut of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y.
Both forms function differently:
- Mega Mewtwo X becomes a Psychic and Fighting-type Pokémon
- Mega Mewtwo Y remains a pure Psychic-type
Mega Mewtwo X appears designed around aggressive close-range offensive damage, while Mega Mewtwo Y is expected to become one of the strongest pure Psychic attackers Pokémon GO has ever seen.
Importantly, Niantic has confirmed that trainers can Mega Evolve existing Mewtwo they already own. Players do not need to catch a completely new Mewtwo specifically for Mega Evolution.
That means previously caught:
- Shiny Mewtwo
- Lucky Mewtwo
- Shadow Ball Mewtwo
- Psystrike Mewtwo
- High-IV Mewtwo
can all eventually become Mega Mewtwo forms.

Super Mega Raids Are Being Introduced
Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global also introduces an entirely new raid tier called Super Mega Raids.
According to currently confirmed details, Mega Mewtwo X and Y will only appear through these raids during GO Fest. Niantic has already stated these encounters are intended to be significantly more difficult than standard Mega Raids.
Although exact boss CP values and recommended player counts have not yet been officially confirmed, expectations are already pointing toward these becoming some of the hardest raid battles Pokémon GO has ever introduced.
That likely means:
- Larger raid groups
- Stronger counters required
- Higher revive usage
- More organised raid teams
- Greater importance on Mega boosts

Mega Mewtwo Requires More Mega Energy Than Normal
Another major detail confirmed by Niantic is that Mega Mewtwo requires substantially more Mega Energy than regular Mega Evolutions.
Niantic specifically described both Mega Mewtwo forms as “exceptionally powerful,” which is why their Mega Energy requirements are significantly higher than normal Mega Pokémon.
However, GO Fest players do receive a major advantage.
Every Mega Mewtwo caught during GO Fest 2026 Global will already have at least one Mega Level unlocked automatically. That means trainers can Mega Evolve them immediately without paying the usual first-time Mega Energy cost.
Some trainers may even receive Mega Mewtwo with Mega Level 2 already unlocked, although this appears to be random.
This is a huge benefit because building Mega Levels normally takes repeated Mega Evolutions over time.

Rotating habitats are once again returning for GO Fest 2026 Global.
Each habitat rotation is expected to feature:
- Different wild Pokémon
- Habitat-exclusive encounters

Historically, GO Fest habitat hours become some of the best shiny hunting windows of the entire year.
While exact shiny rates have not yet been confirmed, GO Fest events traditionally include increased shiny odds for ticket holders, particularly through Incense encounters and featured event spawns.
